Prolegomenon and Other Random Thoughts
If you’ve been paying attention at all, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of Definition and also what the crew at LA Cigar Collective have been doing, respectively. But now they’re teaming up with an LACC Definition exclusive, Big Iron, which will get released at PCA 2026 in New Orleans. If you’ve heard the song before, you know it’s an old country ballad by Marty Robbins. But if you’re like me who doesn’t know shit about fuck when it comes to country music 🤮 let me help you.
Big Iron is basically a classic Western story about good beating evil, where a quiet Arizona Ranger rides into Agua Fria to take down a cocky outlaw named Texas Red. Red is super overconfident because he’s already killed 20 men and expects the ranger to just be another notch on his belt, but that arrogance is exactly what does him in. They meet in the street for a duel, and the ranger is so fast with the big revolver on his hip, the aforetold Big Iron, that Red drops dead before he can even clear his holster—showing that the law eventually catches up and getting too full of yourself will just get you killed. The song picked up some popularity when it was used in the Fallout: New Vegas soundtrack and became a bit of a meme.
But the meme isn’t what inspired Kyle to use the name Big Iron; he just always thought it was a dope song (his words) and liked the imagery surrounding it. So the silver garter band Definition uses represents the .45 caliber Colt Single Action Army revolver “Big Iron.” It was also a project that pushed everybody out of their comfort zones. Big ring cigars don’t always pack a punch—could they give it more intensity than a normal Gordo? Jamond from Definition was also out of his element with the cowboy theme and large vitola, but they persevered and came up with the final cigar we have today. And TBH, as you can see below, I’m digging the Jamond-inspired black cowboy they went with as a nod to the original Gunfighter Ballads album cover.
Full disclosure – I did *not* get a free sample or special advance release. The LACC boys included Big Iron in their March Collective Pack, so everybody who subscribed got a pre-release example to try out. This is also to say I won’t get a chance to smoke Big Iron again until after it’s officially released to the public during PCA, so I only have one example journaled for now.

The Review
This review for the Definition Big Iron (Silver Band) - Gordo (6.25 x 60) is based on the journal entry dated 2026-04-06
Appearance & Construction (0-3): Average (2)
Ol’ Big Iron is looking a little weathered. The blend might be officially undisclosed, but the wrapper they used looks and feels exactly like an Ecuadorian Habano, perhaps aged or higher-priming. It’s a medium-to-slightly-dark brown with a light sheen and good mottling. No real tooth, but a ton of thin and light veins running through it, with a couple on the thicker side. There are a couple of small holes and some lumps, but the seams are tight and the cap is clean. The cigar has a nice, firm roll but feels light for its size. Definition’s signature nylon band is featured in a new silver color.
Draw (0-3) & Burn (0-4): Average (2) / Great (4)
The draw is a little loose, and the burn starts off with a lot of wave, though it stays even. The waves are interesting because they’re tight ripples in the burn line, but side-to-side, it’s balanced. The ash is bright white with tight spacing between the striations. By the end of the first third, the burn line has flattened out nicely with just a gentle waviness left to it. The ash holds nicely, falling off just before the midpoint.
Flavor Profile (0-5): Excellent (5)
Immediate nutmeg, baking spice, baking cocoa, and honey sweetness. I’m getting shades of the Kinsman here. There’s more earth and sweetness, but still a lot of dry baking cocoa and cedar woodiness. For the size, Big Iron isn’t swinging hard to start; this is all just really pleasant and robust flavors. I’m getting a surprising blast of citrus and salt. It’s a bit lemony, but there’s also a lot of salted caramel chocolate in there too.
The second third starts consistent with the strong baking cocoa, earth, and cedar-based core, with a lot of citrus and honey sweetness on top. There’s just the faintest hint of red pepper, but the spice is really all cinnamon, nutmeg, and baking spice. At the midpoint, I start getting black coffee and anise; meanwhile, the earth is turning bready, like pumpernickel. It’s still a drier-tasting blend in spite of the heavy sweetness. It’s not thick and creamy on the finish, but it is super smooth. There’s a very light barnyard must and peanut shell nuttiness at times, but both are very mild.
With the final third, coffee has really settled in as a dominant note in the blend, turning the baking cocoa into a very rich mocha, and the black licorice anise flavor has fallen off. Salty and citrus zest are still the dominant bright notes that really hit the lips and tip of the tongue, while the sweetness is a mix of lemon and honey. What’s really surprising is how the pepper notes have snuck up on me. There’s never been a dominant pepper flavor, but my tongue and mouth have a tingling sensation from it.
Overall Experience (0-5): Excellent (5)
Like the Arizona Ranger in the song, Big Iron delivers that killer shot. For the size of the cigar, there’s no nicotine wallop, but the flavors are well-blended, robust, and nuanced at the same time. If you enjoyed the limited-edition Kinsman, you’re going to absolutely love this cigar. At this point, pricing has not been announced, but Definition has always been reasonably priced as a boutique brand, and I expect that to be the case here as well. If you’re not local to LACC, you can order Big Iron through their website after it debuts at PCA 2026. Get this, grab some of the other Definition lineup too, and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. 🔥
