Prolegomenon and Other Random Thoughts
Avowed has come back with their first new regular production blend since launching in early 2025, the Hallowed Hands. According to the good folks at Avowed, Hallowed Hands “honors the tireless efforts of the individuals and families that have perfected the craft of cigar making over centuries.” Now what’s really cool about this, and shows how no detail goes overlooked by the Avowed team, the marbleized blue background on each cigar band in the box of 15 will have a unique pattern to it, like fingerprints. While the Toro and Corona Gorda were aged roughly 18 months, the Robusto Grande was rolled a little while after, so they received just over a year of aging. You know I’m a big fan of the entire Avowed lineup, so this is an exciting cigar as it’s also their strongest blend to date!
But, truth be told, I’m usually not a big fan of box-pressed cigars. They are more expensive, tend to burn inconsistently, are hit or miss with the draw, and are more likely to be underfilled to accommodate for the pressing. But some folks love the candy bar shape. Avowed used it as an opportunity to pack extra Pennsylvania Broadleaf into this version of the Hallowed Hands. So, at the least, it should provide a different experience from the other two vitolas. As such, I left this one as the last to review.

The Review
This review for the Avowed Hallowed Hands - Robusto Grande (Box Press) (5.75 x 50) is based on the journal entry dated 2026-03-11
Appearance & Construction (0-3): Good (3)
Like the Toro and Corona Gorda, it has the same beautiful milk chocolate brown Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper resplendent with a beautiful sheen, heavy mottling, and great color variation that has an oily feel to the texture. I know we all complain about the rising prices of cigars, but there’s definitely an argument for investing in higher-grade tobacco like you see here.
There are a couple of slightly thicker veins running the length of the cigar, as the leaf seems to be on the thicker side, with a lot of visible thinner veins running across, but they’re all pressed in. The press also smooths out the lumps the other vitolas have. The seams are tight and the edges are also less obvious because of the press. It’s all well-rolled with a slightly uneven cap. As with every vitola, these bands are just stunning.
Draw (0-3) & Burn (0-4): Average (2) / Good (3)
No surprises, but the draw is the loosest of the three vitolas. The ash is the same light gray with very dark striations that lightly feathers and drops an occasional ash flake. The burn is well-controlled, but it’s a little uneven and very wavy. Sometimes the burn line is flat; other times one side races ahead. But the ash holds past the midway point before falling. I do find this is a faster-burning cigar compared to the other two vitolas.
Flavor Profile (0-5): Great (4)
Earthy, dark—the Pennsylvania Broadleaf wastes no time letting its presence be known. There’s more coffee and dark chocolate cocoa flavor in this mix. Sweetness is more molasses, but not as strong. By the end of the first third, the pepper and baking spices have picked up to a nice medium-plus. All of this sitting on top of a very heavy, charred oak base. I’m not getting the pumpernickel breadiness that was so dominant in the Toro or Corona Gorda, and it’s missed.
The second third continues with the oaky and charred base notes, strong earth, strong coffee, heavy baking cocoa, mild molasses sweetness, and medium spice. There is very minor black cherry sweetness at times and light leather now that blend in early. I’m finally getting some of that pumpernickel bready flavor, but it’s overpowered by the smoky mesquite BBQ flavors that come from the charred woodiness, pepper, baking spice, and molasses sweetness.
There are no major changes heading into the final third, with charred oak, coffee, dark chocolate cocoa, and spice driving the blend.
Overall Experience (0-5): Excellent (5)
If you prefer a thicker, darker, more charred and savory experience to the Hallowed Hands, this is your cigar. If you like Pennsylvania Broadleaf, this is your cigar. It’s pretty good, but didn’t resonate with my palate like the other two vitolas. I think this would be my last choice of the three, but it might be your first if the 11.25 is your favorite of The Vow.
