Prolegomenon and Other Random Thoughts

Avowed has come back with their first new regular production blend since launching in early 2025, the Hallowed Hands. According to the good folks at Avowed, Hallowed Hands “honors the tireless efforts of the individuals and families that have perfected the craft of cigar making over centuries.” Now what’s really cool about this, and shows how no detail goes overlooked by the Avowed team, the marbleized blue background on each cigar band in the box of 15 will have a unique pattern to it, like fingerprints. As Avowed also does, the initial production was rolled back in the fall of 2024 and was given almost 18 months of rest before shipping to the US for distribution. You know I’m a big fan of the entire Avowed lineup, so this is an exciting cigar as it’s also their strongest blend to date!

I reviewed all three vitolas and started with the Corona Gorda. I had been given a pre-release example of the Corona Gorda last fall while they were still aging, and you’ll see that in the journal entries below. Needless to say, after getting a preview, I have been excitedly waiting for the official release of these cigars all winter!

The Review

This review for the Avowed Hallowed Hands - Corona Gorda (5.75 x 46) is based on the journal entry dated 2026-03-06

Appearance & Construction (0-3):  Good (3)

It’s a lovely milk chocolate brown leaf that has a nice sheen, heavy mottling, and color variation with a very oily feel to the texture. There are a couple of slightly thicker veins running the length of the cigar as the leaf seems to be on the thicker side. The seams are tight but do have visible edges from the leaf thickness. But it’s well-rolled with a clean cap. The black, gold, and blue band is absolutely gorgeous, and the blue marble background gives it a feeling of depth that you don’t see in most bands. When you have multiple side-by-side, it’s such a fantastic detail to see the varying blue backgrounds.

Draw (0-3) & Burn (0-4):  Good (3) / Good (3)

The draw is perfect and the burn starts cleanly. There are only two people who roll the Avowed cigars at Kelner Cigars, so I’m finding the consistency of quality is always there. The ash is a very light gray with a lot of wide, dark accents where the ash ripples. There aren’t many, but there are some oil crystals embedded in it. The burn line is fairly even most of the time, though it does get a little wavy and uneven at others, but it stays well-controlled. The ash looks like it wants to flake, but it never does and holds almost to the midway point. Overall, it’s a very good and clean burn. No corrections or relights needed.

Flavor Profile (0-5):  Excellent (5)

The initial flavors bring the full baking rack with cinnamon, baking spice, pepper, baking cocoa, and a honey-to-molasses-like sweetness that’s all dressed up in a bready base. This is one of the things I love about the entire Avowed line: there’s no wait for the payoff. Full flavors right out the gate. This is spicy dark honey wheat bread, so you’re getting the sweet, the cocoa, the molasses, the breadiness, and if you’ve ever had cinnamon honey butter, we’re getting that cinnamon spice, more sweetness, and a delightful buttery creaminess on the finish. This is fantastic and right in my palate’s sweet spot. Goddamn. 🔥

We’re getting a ton of complexity and nuance in the first third. It calls back to the other cigars in the Avowed lineup while also being something totally different. So there’s a familiarity to this blend: the bready, honey sweetness of the New Dawn, the bright, peppery woodiness of The Vow, and the rich, dark earth and mocha of the Awakening. Avowed has barely been on the market for a year, and this feels like a greatest hits recap of year one.

At the midpoint, I’m getting more pepper and some charred woodiness—a shift from the cinnamon and breadiness—so it’s getting a mesquite vibe that’s equally delicious. There’s some light saltiness, mild earth, and leather at points during the smoke, but they’re largely buried underneath the multitude of other flavors.

With the final third, the pepper and spice have really ramped up, and oof… I am loving this blend. The sweetness has pulled back some, leaving more rye and pumpernickel bread. It’s not quite as creamy at the end, leaving the slightest pepper harshness, but it’s still fantastic overall.

Overall Experience (0-5):  Excellent (5)

Another fantastic cigar from the team at Avowed. It’s been only a year since they hit the scene and all of their cigars have been straight 🔥🔥🔥, including this one. If you’ve had The Vow 6.29 and New Dawn and loved both of those, but wanted more strength or a darker blend, you’ll absolutely love the Hallowed Hands. This is a beautiful cigar.
